This model features a cylindrical lock, an upgraded version of the cam lock that uses a pin and tumbler system. In the base of the lock lies several pins cut to various lengths. The correct key fits the pins together to turn the lock. The tumbling action activates the cam which in turn lifts the latch on the lock. Cylindrical locks are more difficult to pick than cam locks and offer greater security measures. Link Locker offers owners a standard key that only works with one lock and a master key capable of opening several locks.

Combination Locks

Link Locker offers three versions of the combination lock: single use, multi-use, and digital. Locks such as the cam lock and cylindrical lock have a mechanical combination mechanism in their lock base. Only the correct key completes the combination and allows the lock to open. In the case of combination locks, the correct combination uses numbers, not keys, to open the lock. Users memorise a coded set of numbers and enter it into the combination lock. Mechanical combination locks make the user spin the numbers around in a circle while new digital combination locks only require that users type the numbers into the lock. Single-use and multi-use locks look similar because they both use a mechanical combination design, but they operate on different principles. The single-use lock only responds to one combination code. Multi-use locks respond to several codes, and this system works well for employees who have to share the same locker. Combination locks work well in public spaces because it means users do not have to keep track of a key.

However, Link Locker does include a mechanical key device in its combination locks. The physical key overrides the combination code to open the lock. This is a highly useful feature if the owner forgets the combination code. Owners don't give out the key to the public. Instead, they opt to keep it in a safe place for emergencies.
